Government
Medical College is an attempt to generate a climate of science in independent
India. It was established in April 1971(foundation stone laid by then Chief
Minister late Mr.G.M.Sadiq (J&K) to serve as a nucleus for the development of
excellence in all aspects of the health care system. Government Medical College
spreads this culture of dedicated efficiency, love and care to humanity at large
even outside its walls, within the Province and state, through its students
trained at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in various disciplines. Our
activities are concerned with student welfare on a variety of issues concerning
life.
Academic, Cultural, Welfare and Sports Events
Opportunities
are created for the students to develop their talent in various fields of
art and culture viz., Music, Dramatics, Literature, Debates and Sports etc. The
students are encouraged to undertake social activities.
Students’
Sport Activities:
The Institute has upheld the healthy tradition of maintaining the intellectual
as well as the physical fitness of the Students. The facilities for indoor as
well as outdoor games like table tennis, badminton, cricket; lawn tennis,
football etc. have been consistently available to the enthusiasts. At the end of
each sport’s meet, a special function is held where medals and certificates are
given to winners/runner-ups. Sports section also organizes friendly matches in
order to keep sportive atmosphere in the campus.
Cultural
and Social Activities:
The students of the Institute hold a number of cultural, literary and social
activities every year. Such activities to promote a common sense of brotherhood
among the various segments of students and staff of the Institute besides
providing the much needed diversion from busy academic and service routine.
Every
year Cultural week is organized in which various items relating to fine arts,
dance, drama, music and literary activities like debate, quiz, essay writing
etc. are organized. There is also a tradition to celebrate important festivals
like Lodi/Diwal/Gurpurab & Eddi etc. as well as the fresh students and residents
joining the Institute are welcomed by holding a fresher's night. Students bring
out the annual magazine with Hindi/Urdu/Dogri & English sections "JASCAL"
and "SYNAPSE", which
provide them an opportunity to demonstrate their literary ideas and writing
skills.
