The Radiotherapy & Oncology Department started functioning in the year 1991 in Govt. Medical College, Jammu, thus starting the era of Super-Speciality service being provided in the Medical College, Jammu. The department has since been providing treatment to the Cancer patients. There has been steady increase in the number if Cancer Patients with passing year since then. The following services are being provided to the patients by the department:

• Radiotherapy Treatment

• Chemotherapy Treatment.

• Out-Patients Department Services.

• Indoor patient Services.

• Palliative Care to the Cancer Patients.

• Management of Chronic Pain in Cancer patients.

ADDITION OF NEW FACILITIES:

 1.                  Palliative Care Service.

 The department has started Palliative Care Service to the terminal cancer patients on regular basis. The management of chronic systems like pain etc. is done with preference for domiciliary care (i.e. providing the patients treatment at their homes).

2.                  Increase in Numbers of Chemotherapy Beds.

 Chemotherapy beds has been increased to facilitate comfortable Chemotherapy Treatment to the patients.

 FUTURE PLANS:

 1.                  Up-gradation of the Department to Regional Cancer Centre.

As the state of Jammu & Kashmir has no regional Cancer Centre. Our efforts are to up-grade our centre to Regional cancer Centre so as to provide state of the art care to the cancer patients.
